INQ - will it fly? or will it flop?

Tarmo states that one of the USP's  for the INQ phone is the ability to Tweet from an APP on the INQ phone, using it's 3G internet capability. Fring (see www.fring.com) have been offering this for symbian OS handsets for some time. Since there is really nothing new to the market here which other handsets cannot already do, the success of this handset depends entirely on the marketing approach used.Fly or Flop? I doubt the savvy Singaporeans will be easily fooled, my money goes with flop.

They were all at it. Governments all over the world were auctioning off radio spectrum to the highest bidders. Make no mistake about it, the bids were high. So high in fact that only now we may hear about the true cost. Of course there are some 'secrets' behind this which the broadcasters and government would prefer not to be broadcast! These are DAB, DVB-T and HD, and DRM... all of which are changing the use of spectrum, although not quite as you might first think. All this means the small guys who didn't buy overpriced spectrum are on to a winner., see commentary for more details.

LED or LCD? confusing the technology for the man in the street

There is a new technology coming for Television. The ultimate in viewing is still the good old CRT (-Cathode Ray Tube -) technology. Consumers have been swayed away from CRT by the wonderfully slim LCD (-Liquid Crystal Display -) and Plasma televisions which save space and look great but have some disadvantages. E.g. use more power, create waste heat, have contrast/movement/deep black problems. The new technology uses LED technology to create micro-CRT equivalents which are co-ordinated by digital electronics to make a single picture. It's called SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display), and potentially will bring the CRT quality and low consumption with the delightful aesthetics of slim television. Samsung has confused the issue by using an LCD television, and simply changing the backlight from a fluorescent to an LED. The television is still an LCD display, the consumer will never directly see the LEDs. This contrasts with early digital watches which DID use LEDS!
