With the recent trends of presbyopic correction , Bausch and Lomb has now entered the arena.
Analysis
Utilizing a completely different mechanism of action, and an improved IOL platform, the Crystalens now has the opportunity to take a significant portion of market share from Alcon and AMO.Many colleagues (and I myself) have stopped utilizing ReStor and ReZoom due tp their excess amount of glare and halo. Even with "neuroadaptation" and careful patient selection, I have had to explant several of these multi-focal lens implants from unhappy patients. Contrarily, not one of my Crystalens patients has experienced excess glare, halos or diminished night vision.Given Bausch's surgical division's marketing power, Crystalens may now get fair exposure to ophthalmologists as well as to the general public. The new 5.0 lens has better accomodative abilities than the prior model leading to a greater reading range and happier post-operative patients.
