Summary
"This, too, shall pass."
The Android avalanche continues. As both a user and an app provider, I can say that resting on that platform will result in the same outcome as sitting on DOS 6.22...the rest of the world moves on.
Analysis
Open source doesn't necessarily mean success. The good news usually is low cost apps. The bad news is that QA on many of them is poor at best. That leads to disappointment and frustration and a significant dilution of the "parent" brands - in this case, Android and Google.
Fickle consumers (translation: all consumers, today) will move on when they become frustrated. Some will wait until their commitment is up with their mobile company; others will sell their phones or throw them in a draw next to all the others while they power up a new unit on a different platform.
Bottom line: Enjoy it while you can, Android. Do your best to protect your brand because it's going to be "This Android app doesn't work. Google's a pain," not "This app doesn't work."
