In a 2005 BusinessWeek article, Calix’ CEO was quoted as saying: "The only thing that would cause me to go public is if we wanted to go do an acquisition. I don't know why else I'd do it." It was clear to us earlier this year that he had evidently not changed his stance in justifying an IPO.

The latest prediction on the Total Allowable Catch totals for the USA pollock industry for 2010 appear to be solidly in favor of lowering them once again. This makes Greenpeace happy (not really) but is bad news for the industry as a whole. Jobs will be lost, companies may be headed for continued hard times. Yet most consumers of fish say, so what, I never eat pollock. How wrong they are.

The GAO study of bankcard interchange fees is a mixed bag for the industry. It upholds the practice (in contradiction to the lawsuit against the practice in New York) but points to numerous ideas about how its excesses can be reduced. The latter could propel the Welsh bill in Congress toward enactment. It would allow merchant actions to pressure issuers to accept lower interchange fees. The study's ideas could also play a role in crafting a settlement of the NY suit.
