FTTX (Fiber to the X) refers to any telecommunications network architecture that uses fiber-optic cable in place of copper for better quality and improved internet speed. It is the generic term that encompasses FTTN (Fiber to the Node/Neighborhood), FTTC (Fiber to the Curb), FTTB (Fiber to the Building), and FTTH (Fiber to the Home). FTTX allows phone companies to compete with the cable industry by offering new services such as a "triple play" of voice, data, and video.
