GLG Topic: Handsets

Wireless Handsets are telecommunications devices consisting of both a transmitter and a receiver. The current trend for wireless handsets is compatibility with 3G cellular technology, which transports wireless broadband data services to a wireless handset. This technology allows users to process the same applications on a cell phone as that of a computer, such as browsing the internet, streaming music video, watching on-demand video programming, downloading and playing 3D games, and videoconferencing.

By Gregg Kail, MBA, Former Reseller Manager, AT&T Corp

The projections and analysis from the iSuppli Corp. for replacement handsets compared to new subscribers imply the possibility of a price war and reduced margins.

By Gregg Kail, MBA, Former Reseller Manager, AT&T Corp

Despite reporting that the iPhone brought high value customers of 160% ARPU, AT&T is still focusing on basic mobile communications with four new messaging handsets priced under $100.

By Joe Weingarten, Executive Director, Macintosh Reseller Association

If handset sales slow down, two things happen, first the hardware manufacturers slow down, but also the revenue stream to the telecoms. If people are not moving up in handsets, they are also not moving up in usage of special expensive add-ons in service.
